Uploading your Webpage


Introduction

After many late nights making sure your web pages were as perfect as possible, you are ready to send them out into the Internet World to be seen by the masses. If you feel a little intimidated by the whole thing, don't. Its easy! The rest of this page is devoted to helping you understand how to upload your pages, and to give you an idea how FTP programs such as WS_FTP work. Best of luck, and may your site always look and work right the first time.

Uploading your webpage

When you acquire a web account with AKC, we create a "www" subdirectory in your user directory. This is where you will need to upload (from your computer to ours) your HTML pages. (you complete directory path on our WWW server should be /home/yourusername/www You may also have a subdirectory named images in your www directory to store your gif and jpg files in.


A. Downloading WS_FTP
  • You can download the latest version of wsftp for win95 by clicking here
B. Using WS_FTP To upload your webpage
  • Start WS_FTP By clicking on the start button, go to Progams, and down to Ws_FTP Pro, then click on WS_FTP Pro.
  • When the connection window appears, click NEW to create a new session profile
  • For Profile Name, type something like Upload Webpage
  • For Hostname, type ftp.akc.com
  • Leave host type to Automatic Detect
  • Enter your account Username in the User ID Box (all lowecase)
  • Enter your account password in the Password Box
  • Leave account blank, when you connect it will automatically put you in your home directory
  • Verify the information is correct, then click OK, it will connect to our system automatically
  • On the Remote System window, which is on the right side, you will see a folder icon called WWW, double click on that.. this is where you will upload your webpage.
  • On the left side, the local system window, go to the directory your webpage is stored in.
  • Select all of the files for your webpage by clicking on the top file and dragging down to the bottom file.
  • Once all files are selected, click on the arrow pointing to the remote system, which can be found in the center of the two windows.. this will begin the process of uploading your webpage to our system.
C. Viewing your new webpage
  • Open your browser and go to MYNAME replace MYNAME with your AKC web address and page name.
  • If all went well, you should see your work in front of you, ALL DONE!
